National AmeriCorps Week with Connie Stewart
This year, National AmeriCorps Week is March 12 to 18. To celebrate, we’re featuring Connie Stewart, our AmeriCorps Family Services Coordinator!
Connie Stewart is a Maryland native who is a proud mom of 2, bonus mom to many, and an active educator, entrepreneur, community activist and volunteer. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science and Policy/Minor in Sociology from University of Maryland Baltimore County and a Masters in Business Administration from University of Phoenix. Her dedication to supporting the holistic empowerment of individual, family and community is her primary focus. She is excited to bring her dedication and skills to support the efforts of Habitat for Humanity Choptank.
Connie works in the Homebuyer Program with Pat Ingram, our Client Services Manager. She serves as the initial application intake person, which includes receiving initial inquiries, sending homebuyer eligibility application packets, communicating with clients if they have questions, and receiving documents to create their application folders.
“I joined Habitat Choptank because the mission and purpose aligned with my mission and purpose in the community,” says Connie. “Habitat also committed itself as being a safe haven against racism and supporting individuals of all ethnicities and cultures.”
In her time with Habitat Choptank and AmeriCorps so far, Connie has learned about the need for affordable housing and renovations in the area and the need for continuation of educating and empowering individuals in financial literacy and the importance of homeownership. She has also learned that diversified communities are a positive choice in healing the damage of racism.
Connie, thank you for all of the ways that you serve Habitat Choptank as an AmeriCorps volunteer!
